The Vampiric Embrace
By: Adam Rose

Prologue:

The bells toll silently on the haunted hills of the United States, overlooked by an ancient breed of those deemed as monsters. Even in the present day, the pain bared by sunlight still haunting those forever never to roam the morning sun. But even in such terrible circumstance, the youth ordained at whatever age they had been bit, were not forgot. But merely it would now be only fortune to suppress the majestic qualities of these brethren.
Some have grown up hearing stories of monsters in the closet, under the bed and the modern world has seen a plethora of movies with monsters and scary things in it. But many never think these things would be real, on the contrary, they are very real; as it should be known, the vampire prince is in the process of being married to a mortal.
Never assume the prince of vampires has never desired her life blood. In fact, the soft white of a very stubborn roommate, Krista, has tempted him nothing less than the occasional temptation that such as any vampire would bear. But amongst tinges of hunger, a tingle has burnt in him much like an insufferable fire. Something the apparent 24-year old youth has assumed he had forgotten. That burning passion would only happen to be love. And time will hopefully never forget.
The success their betrothal will lead to, and yet the wars it will cause, can only be condemned by those who never could see the power of humanity could efface upon what shall now be called The Vampiric Embrace.
Of course, it would only start out in humble roots. Nothing, even those regarded as demons, do not start out without the roots of what we humans domain in humanity. Unfortunately, those squeamish to the blood of their kin seem to shy away from such books. It is only their folly in doing so. For the success of the ancients they fear first begins with the humans who vampires depend upon as hosts.
This is the story of those individuals. The hilarity in their personality should not come as a surprise. Even the eldest vampire has human emotions. Unfortunately, with our prince’s true age, surpassing now 300, despite his charming look of twenty-four, he has been wounded spiritually and in every way possible. He will for all eternity continue to bear the ceremonious symbol of power to his prestigious clan and gathering. Unfortunately, he will also bear the same stigmas for all eternity…and the one he loves shall bear those same wounds with him in due time.

Chapter One: The Meeting

Krista had just turned twenty four only a few weeks before she had graduated college. Of course, she knew she could graduate with a degree in helping people. Specifically, she intended on helping little children, regardless if it was a last minute decision for a career. She knew that she would not get far in life with the other two choices she had decided, so she had minored in Literary English and also Music Pedagogy.
Unfortunately, she did not live as a resident, so she instead lived on the campus. However, she was not currently in the dorms. The street seemed more appropriate to her. She felt more familiar with the alleys than building. She had in fact spent many nights escaping from home. She had hardly anything that had particular value to her, and a seriously limited wants or needs. So it was much simpler to do, in her opinion. But that seemed to change when she met a mysterious yet particularly interesting man named Alexander Malkovich.
She stood at the front desk looking at some names that had reserved rooms. It was more or less a miniature flight situation as Mr. Malkovich had slammed his fist onto the bell, intending on a small shock situation. The ring sounded louder than the overpowered music in the lobby.
Krista jumped in a feeling of sheer terror for half a second then realized the bell had rung and it was Alexander Malkovich.
She composed herself and asked, hiding her initial startled expression, “Mr. Malkovich, same room as always?”
“Actually, no. May I get a room with two bedrooms in it? Also, how did you know my name?”
“The first hint was that I’ve heard you make the lobby shake whenever you hit the bell. And the fact that even though I’ve never seen you, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Really, who told you?” Alexander looked at her with a small questioning look.
“No one really, people just talk a lot.” Krista dodged off the question with very little effort.
“About my wonderful skills?” Alexander tried to push her buttons out of a feeling of jest.
“You’re an arrogant one, aren’t you?” She looked back at him with an icy glare. He didn’t permit a smile.
She tapped her fingers in a solid rhythm. The tapping edged on Alex’s nerves. Something reminiscent of the drums he heard when he permitted himself into a cult a century ago.
“Do you always do that when you’re nervous or angry?”
“Sorry, I…it’s a habit, hey wait a gosh darn minute. I don’t have to explain myself to you! You’re not my boss and I’m not a kid, I’m a young woman.” Krista felt a bit of bile curdle in her stomach.
‘He’s not going to like me if I go off on him.’ She thought silently.
“Young, yes, woman, not so much.” Alexander spitefully thought, and realized he had said it versus suppressing the thought.
The bile in her stomach had turned to a vitriolic blend of wrath, “Now look, if I didn’t care about my job, I’d hit you and give you a few choice words that would make even a sailor’s mouth drop!”
Alexander cringed for a millisecond and recuperated, “I don’t doubt it for a second.”
“Don’t you mock me you arrogant ba…” Krista was interrupted by the boss, Tom.
“Miss Sanders.” Tom spoke somewhat loudly as to catch her attention.
“Yes, sir?” She was forced to recant her statements and especially silence herself.
“Were you giving our guest a hard time?” Tom asked Krista somewhat aggressively.
“No, sir, he was…” She attempted to defend herself but was cut off again.
“Was she giving you a hard time, Mr. Malkovich?” Tom redirected the question to Alex, he felt his moustache pique up. “Because if she was, I could fire her.”
“No, that won’t be necessary. It seems to me that she’s under a significant amount of stress. So, sir, please go easy on her for my sake at least.” Alex pleaded to Tom, finding his position a mite peculiar. He felt the vibration of his cell phone in his right pocket. Alex proceeded to open the phone, checking the directory. It was the restaurant. Brilliant.
“Very well Miss Sanders. Well, why don’t you take the rest of the night off at home and I’ll handle things for you.”
Krista looked over at Tom nervously, holding the front desk bell in a fenced-in approach, “But sir, I need the money, and I don’t exactly own a place. I sleep in the back of my car, sir. I’ve no one to go to. My parents probably don’t even live in the state or the US for that matter!”
Alex spoke to the person on the phone, “Yes, that’s most understandable.”
Tom looked over to Alex curiously, finally realizing that Alex had a conversation of less than 5 seconds. Back to the current situation, he thought.
“I know Krista. Just have some fun, you work and study too much. Just take a break! You will get your paycheck.” Tom suddenly was feeling a bit too friendly for this behavior.
Alex interrupted, “Excuse me, sir, my date canceled. I’ve got nothing to do. She could stay with me and do whatever needs done.”
Krista acerbically responded, “Thank you Mr. Malkovich, but I’d much rather stay in my car.”
“Now Krista, don’t be rude! Take his offer and have some fun.” Tom attempted to lessen the outburst of tension.
Krista angrily conceded, “Oh ALL RIGHT!” Krista calmed for a second, “But no funny business, Mr. Malkovich.”
“It’s Alexander.” Alex was feeling his own vial of anger at this woman.
“What?” Krista did not take that the right way.
“My name is Alexander.” He breathed out. ‘Great, what a stubborn woman!’ Alex quietly thought.
“Oh.” Krista’s posture lightened somewhat.
Alex moved his hand forward to shake her hand, “My name is Alexander Malkovich.”
Krista breathed in harshly, “Krista Ann Sanders.” She shook his hand as she grabbed her purse.
“Now don’t you feel better?” Tom was feeling like being very patronizing.
“Not really, sir.” Krista was feeling a hint of defeat.
“You’re off work now, Krista. It’s Tom. My name is Tom.”
Alex moved over to the vending machine. It dropped a Coke without him putting in a single coin. Tom saw this, hoping that Krista did not witness this bit of excess of power use. She didn’t.
“Let’s go.” Alexander moved by and reached out for Krista’s hand. They continued to walk out.
“Don’t you think I should change?” Krista asked quite brusquely.
“Why?” Alex was beginning to think of how mortal women were very superficial.
“These are my work clothes.” Krista was beginning to whimper.
“That bothers you?” Alex was keeping on pushing.
“It bothers me because they’re my work clothes.” Krista was losing her anger and subsiding into a whimper of sorts.
Alex desired lodging a nail into his forehead. He decided an alternative.
“Well, I guess we’ll have to buy you some clothes.”
“Hold on, that doesn’t mean I don’t have clothes in my car.” Krista was trying to avoid him spending money on her.
“So where is your car?” Alex was actually quite sure of where her car was. Too far for his liking.
“Not here, obviously.” Krista wanted to slap him for being an idiot.
“Why not?” Alex was finding this woman to be all kinds of crazy.
“I just started working nights. I don’t trust these streets. It’s across town.”
“I understand,” Alex said, only semi-understanding actually. “Now let me help you into my car.”
He turned the corner of the parking lot and clicked a button to find the car.
All the sudden, a small illuminating light exposed the car.
It was a 2007 Mercedes-Benz with very tinted windows, chrome rims, a fine polished finish, spoiler, sun-roof, and it looked like the car could leave stock car drivers in the dust.
“Okay, whoa! Is that your car?” Krista smiled something terrible at this fire-breathing machine.
“Yes.” Alex smiled at the compliment. Krista looked at Alex as he smiled and suddenly she felt flustered. Was it just her or was that smile the hottest thing she had ever seen? She forced herself to ignore it.
“It’s amazing…” Krista wiped her finger on the side of the door. The finish was gold and silver tinted. It looked like the thing had cost 500 thousand dollars. She thought, ‘He’d get quite a goody if he were to buy her that.’ What? Did her brain just make a reference to having sex with the guy?
“You like it?” Alex was feeling a bit of ego overflow.
“Hell yeah, I like it.” Krista was fascinated with the car AND its driver. She told herself silently, ‘Damn it, brain, shut up.’
Alex shook his pockets. “We got a problem.”
Krista said, redirected her attention to a new problem.
“I left my car keys on the counter and you never gave me the room key!”
“I have the room key.”
“What’s the number?” Alex wondered.
“666.”
“Oh joy, my favorite number.” Alex was feeling a bit vitriolic on that one. He hated his association with the Devil and his demons.
The blonde in Krista did not hold for long, “Oh, Satan’s number. Just like God’s number is ‘777’.”
Alex shook at that word. God. It created icicles in his chest. If he didn’t hate Satan, he especially hated God.
“Yes, of course.”
Krista looked concerned at Alex. “You all right? You looked like you were in pain.”
“It’s just that I’m tired. That’s all.” Something in Alex made him yell ‘Liar, Liar, Liar’ repeatedly to himself.
“You sure?” Krista noted the shaking was quite violent for being tired.
“Yeah, I need sleep.” Alex said. No, he didn’t. He got plenty of sleep yesterday at his place. He was not a speck of tired.
“So do I, it’s amazing that Saturday’s tomorrow.” Krista began walking back to the hotel with Alex.
“Yes, it is. Let’s go get my car keys and head upstairs to the room so we can sleep.” They walked back into the hotel.
“Okay…” Krista caught herself using a sultry voice she had not intended on using in that reference. She kept thinking, ‘God, touch me again like that…’
“Excuse me, Tom, I think Mr. Malkovich left his car keys here.” Krista asked Tom, getting out of her trance.
“Ah, so he did. Here we go.” Tom handed her the car keys. She felt a bit of power for half a second before Alex grip of cast iron stole the keys and for a second she thought he had stole her heart.
“Krista why don’t you head up to the room, I’ll be back in thirty minutes.” Alex asked Krista, noting her mood to be a bit different.
Krista said again in that same extremely calm voice, “Okay…” She however was thinking much different than that voice. ‘Please don’t go! I don’t want to be lonely any more!’ He looked back at Krista curiously. Krista continued thinking to herself, ‘He looked back at me, oh my what’s wrong with me! He smiled at me, god yes! I wonder what he’s thinking. Oh hell Krista what are you thinking. He can’t possibly like you. Just go up to the room, take a shower and go to sleep!’
Alexander walked out to the car. He was dealing with his own battle.
“Damn Alex what are you afraid of?” Taylor couldn’t help flirting with the dark entity.
“Shut up Taylor!” Alex was finally having the opportunity to unleash his bit of anger.
“Take me up to your room, Alex. I want to explore your body…” Taylor was acting very questionably.
“I can’t.” Alex wanted to wince at his renouncement of her offer.
“Why not?” Taylor whined for him.
“Taylor, you’re acting like Belthazech, shut up!” Alex made reference to a female demon who he had unfortunately become involved with a century ago. She inspired that cult drum.
“Why not?” Taylor whined again. It took a second for her to register his reference to her acting like a female demon of Lust.
“Because I can’t!” Alex began to think to himself, ‘Alex, you know why you can’t. You can’t because that Sanders woman captivates you. You want her to explore your body instead of Taylor. Besides, this isn’t a date. You’re looking for Krista’s car. You just need Taylor to find the damn car. But she is supposed to be a distraction. She’s failing, but what can a vampire do?’
“ALEX, Alex, are you paying attention?” Taylor said impatiently.
Alex lied impulsively, “Huh? Yeah, I was paying attention.”
“Really? Then you should know your father was killed.”
“WHAT!” Alex said extremely loud.
“See, you weren’t paying attention because if you were, you would’ve heard me tell you I found the car you were looking for.”
Alex felt a tinge of defeat. “Oh, you did? Where’d you see it?”
“Well, dumbass, turn the car around and I’ll show you where it’s at.” Taylor was getting extremely aggravated.
“Sure, all right.” Alex was feeling really bad.
“Now look ahead to the left of the headless statue. See it now?” Taylor was enjoying her bit of spite.
“Yes, I see it and I already know what you’re going to ask. No it’s not mine. It’s my friend’s!”
Taylor looked suspiciously. “But you don’t have friends. You have very loyal subjects.”
“Aren’t you a friend?”
“Well, I was hoping we were something more.”
“Well, keep hoping. This one’s a friend and nothing more.” Alex caught himself thinking, ‘I wish she wasn’t just a friend, however.’
“How so?” Taylor was even more suspicious.
“She doesn’t know who or what I am, she only knows my name.” Alex said rather nonchalantly.
“She?! She? Tell me she’s not mortal!” Taylor was really pissed off. A mortal could be stealing her man. How dare she? ‘I’ll bleed her dry if I ever find her…’
“No, you won’t.” Alex said immediately afterwards.
“What?” That shocked the hell out of Taylor.
“You won’t bleed her dry.” Alex was using that psychic power of his. Not very fair, but oh well.
“Bastard. Not fair at all! I can’t even have a private thought.” Taylor was beginning to be so petulant that Alex began to laugh.
“Why are you laughing?”
“That thought would kill a possible candidate for queen.” Alex pushed that final button.
“Why would you consider a mortal for queen?” Taylor was hoping she would be a candidate for that. Now she’d have to kill her.
“No. You kill her, I’m going back to Belthazech and she’ll be queen…”
Oh no. Not her. Flames had to be coming from Taylor at this point as she lunged at him.
“NO!!!” Taylor speedily jumped from across the seat to attack Alex. He stood for a split second and evaporated, running her into the window.
“I hate you. Where’d you go? Why is the wheel still moving?” Taylor looked, dazed and shaking a countless number of stars in her eyes away.
“I never left. I just sat there the whole time.” He reappeared and smiled evilly.
“You suck. You didn’t answer me.” Taylor shook her head again.
“Yes, she is a mortal and we just met today. And I want to help her.”
“Why, she’s a mortal for Pete’s sake.” Taylor was simmering again.
“Why I don’t know, now will you please just shut up?” Alex’s anger was subsiding on the bright side.
“Fine, but don’t ask me to help you anymore.” Taylor conceded aggressively.
“Will do, now shut it!”
“Hmmpff.” She crossed her legs in a bit of defiance.
Taylor felt the silence to be too awkward. “Can I at least ask one more question? Besides this one?”
“What?” Ooh, Alex was boiling over.
“Do you at least have her keys?” Taylor was tempted again to lunge at him when he paused.
Alex looked to his right with an icy glare, “If I didn’t, you think I’d be looking for her car?” Alex’s look betrayed his inner thoughts.
“No.” Taylor answered when she noticed the meter running. “Well that’s good. She keeps feeding the meter, but she appears to be almost out of time.” Maybe she was being really snobby or something, but she was detecting her voice was being used just to piss off Alex more. She accomplished her subconscious goal.
Alex felt his eyes bulge and the irises of his eyes turn from an icy blue to a tinted red. “TAYLOR! Listen to me for a second and stop being such a damn snotty nosed bitch! Now take my car back to the hotel. I’ll drive Krista’s back. I will be 15 minutes. I’m quite hungry.”
“Fine…” Taylor felt a hint of terror in her when she saw his expression. She exited the car and Alex walked out of the car. Taylor entered the driver’s seat and took off.
Alex successfully let his wrath subside. “Thank you, Taylor.”  Alex retreated back to his thoughts. ‘So much for Taylor being a distraction. Alex, just knock it off. You know you can’t have Krista and that’s final.’
He caught himself whimpering and audibly said, “But I want to…”
Without missing a beat he swore he heard a voice say ‘Too bad.’
Alex began speaking out loud.
“I wonder what she’s doing right now. Damn, I want her so badly…”
Alex did not get home for 24 hours. Krista was getting lonely. And unfortunately for her, her drive was keeping her awake. She picked up the phone to call a friend. The ring of the phone was surprisingly loud; she had never realized how loud the dial tone really was. Even more was the voice of her friend Jason.
“Geesh, Krista, it’s been awhile since we last talked. So how are you?” Jason spoke to her.
“Me? I’m fine Jason. How are you?” Krista looked down onto her bed. She remembered Jason’s boyfriend Daniel quite well, she was curious as to how they were doing. She reconciled about the fact that it had been a while since they had talked. “About that…I’m sorry. So how’s Daniel?”
“I’m good sista, oh shucks honey you’re forgiven. By the way, it’s Michael now. We’re doing perfectly fine, girlfriend.” Jason lied about that ‘perfectly fine’. Recently, he had found Michael with someone else. But that wasn’t worth telling her anyway.
“So how long have you been gay this time?” Krista was beginning to pester somewhat rudely.
“Now honey it’s not nice to ask about a bitch’s personal life!” Jason took some offense to that. It was not too long ago he had preferred a woman’s touch, but so far, Michael and Daniel showed him that the other way was preferable.
“Sorry. Oh Jason, I met the most gorgeous guy ever. Oh if you saw him you’d want him for yourself. He is that yummy and those beautiful baby blue eyes. I could lose myself in them!” Now Krista was finding this odd. He was a total asshole. But hey, it’s an asshole with love machine written all over him. ‘That was a peculiar thought. Crap, back to Jason.’
“Child, from the way you describe him, he sounds like breakfast, lunch, and dinner all rolled into one. He definitely sounds tasty.” Krista nodded her head in agreement. Jason seemed to just sit there, enjoying as Michael walked in.
A click for another call came through on Krista’s line. “Oh, Jason, I got to go, he’s back.”
“All right momma, but call me and tell how it’s with him later, all right, bye!” Krista found that lisp a little unnerving but she decided it’s just Jason.
A rapping on the door was louder than normal. Why did he seem to bash the crap out of bells and things like that? Alexander stood there and showed the lightest of grins. He quietly hissed at the 666 sign on the room door.
Changing his expression very adroitly, he still kept that grin. “Hello, Krista, I didn’t realize you were up.” He could feel her body heat on him right now. He was standing three feet away, but the vampire was calling to him tonight. He knew she was up, and that miniature grin he knew was showing it. Bad face.
“I was just talking to my friend, because I can’t sleep. Come in.” She stared into his eyes. It was an unemotional stare, but the stare had purpose.
Alex breathed a sigh of relief as the invisible barrier dissipated. Luckily she told him to come in, if he was forced to stand out here until sun up, he was pretty sure she would be upset. Come to think of it, he’d be upset too. Dead and upset.
He coolly touched the outside edge and curled his fingers around it. He calmly relaxed his hand and pushed himself into the small hotel room. He immediately noticed her stare but decided to speak and not share the glance.
“I picked up your car and put it in the parking garage about half a mile from the hotel. I brought some “better” clothes for you along with clothes as well.” Now he carefully looked at her, intentionally trying not to bespell her with his eyes. It was a very conscious effort.
Krista’s hand was sweating a little and her eyes could barely stand to merely look at him. Breathing outwardly, she gasped in one shallow breath before saying, “Thank you, you didn’t have to do that.” She could feel a severe outward blush and his glance seemed to intensify.
Alex’s grin turned to a kind smile. “Yes, I know, but you’re my guest. My roommate, not to mention a woman. I’m honored you’re here and so I figured I’d be a gentleman and do it for you.” He bowed somewhat awkwardly yet appropriately but the gesture wasn’t received well.
She just remembered why she was supposed to be mad at him. “Oh, so now I’m a woman?” Her initial lustful stare turned to a heated, angry glare.
Alex sighed, “I didn’t say that.” He was even more tempted to trap her with his eyes, he wasn’t used to insolence, and he wasn’t about to start getting used to it.
Her glare reached maximum heat and she began to point and fidget with her hands, “You said that I was young but not a woman.” He looked at her and she could see that he wasn’t wavering in her sight. Most men had by now.
Alex sighed with a tinge of annoyed grace, and moved his foot slightly sideways, “Correction, I said, and quote, ’Young, yes, woman, not so much.’ What I meant was you are a naïve young woman.” Krista stood up slightly taller, meaning Alex pushed a button she didn’t want him to push.
Now she amplified her voice by some innumerable amount and stared at him defiantly. “Listen, here, I went to college, and almost got a Bachelor’s degree to help people. Like young children, and people who need it. I’m graduating college next week with that degree. I’m not a naïve young woman, you…you ass.”
Alex stifled a laugh, he hadn’t been called that name for over half a century. But he knew he had to admit defeat, and he honestly felt apologetic. “Then I’m sorry for calling you naïve, but if I may ask, what made you want to help people?”
Krista breathed and cooled her spiking adrenaline, “I decided since there was no one to help me when I was young, then I’d help them have an opportunity I didn’t.” No one had ever asked her why she wanted to help people before. It was nice to know someone cared.
Alex caught himself smiling again, “That’s most understandable. It’s good to know someone actually cares about others.” He almost was afraid he’d embarrass her to say this next thing, “If I remember correctly, earlier you told Tom you didn’t know where your parents were.”
The last bit of her anger was used up as she moved her leg out of the bowed form and commented, “Yeah, what’s it to you?”
As he felt her defiance wane, he changed back to his very nice voice, “Well, maybe I can help locate them.”
Now that he’d piqued her curiosity, she was now back to feeling her face blush. Her feet were beginning to give way; she was getting angry at herself. “You serious? No, you’re joking, you don’t want to help me, you can’t. You’re lying.” Denial was becoming very friendly to her.
Alex felt an opportunity come up to him. “This may come to you as a shock to you but I do want to help you. No, I swear I’m not lying, completely sincere.” His smile was sustained for slightly longer than he wanted.
“Why thank you… for being nice to me, but after tomorrow you won’t have to worry about me, I’ll be out of your hair for good.”
Alex was pained to ask, “Why do you want to leave so bad?”
Krista could feel a similar pain and anxiety, “I hardly know you, and I don’t want to impose my problems on you anymore. I’m a simple girl with a few major problems.” She cringed and felt a sense of regret for saying it. She didn’t really want to go.
Woe came to his eyes and he was slightly upset. “If that is what you want, Krista, then I won’t stop you.”
Krista felt her legs quiver. She didn’t want to leave now. She wanted to stay there, be in his presence. Her heart rate spiked, and she could’ve cried as she forced the most painful lie she could ever say, “It is.” Every ounce of her inner voice yelled, ‘LIAR!’
When he noticed her heat rise and her heart rate increase to where he could no longer count the beats, he had to press her on the issue. “What is it you really want?” He exposed one fang accidentally, but curled it back before she noticed the long canine. The desire to feed was getting more pronounced, much more severe. But right now, he also wanted to touch her. He sighed; she must have a sexual attraction to him. That would be very convenient, since he had an attraction to her also.
She gulped, afraid he could read her mind, and Krista backed up frightened, “Should there be something else I want?”
Alex’s smile turned to a mischievous smirk, his face was betraying his emotions again. “Not necessarily, but if there is, let me know.” He nearly whispered the statement, putting an emphasis to it, unintentional but heavily effective.
She was backed into a corner and Krista’s only choice was to change the subject, “Well, I am hungry, since I haven’t eaten since lunch.”
Alex walked forward and felt her energy rising. He needed to leave and get some lunch of his own. But he felt the need to explore his opportunities. “Would you like to go out and eat? Or would you prefer room service?” He caught himself thinking a devious thought, ‘Oh, how I’d like to take her out to eat.’ Shut up, mind. He licked his lips though at the opportunity. She caught that gesture.
Clenching through her teeth, that gesture truthfully didn’t offend her. “Room service will be fine. Thank you. What were you thinking?”
